Bio

Sister Ifetayo is a native Washingtonian and comes from a jazz musical family. She was given her first guitar at age 15 by her sister Jan and soon discovered her talent for writing songs. Inspired by reggae music, Ifetayo started writing and singing her own songs, performing at local parks and community events. Shortly thereafter, she became a founding member of the first all female reggae band on the east coast Infinite. She played rhythm guitar and sang lead and back round vocals for the group and gave significant contributions to their wide variety of original music. They received positive write-ups and feedback from the community, local newspapers and radio stations which gave way to opportunities in opening up shows for such reggae giants as Steel Pulse, Muta Baruka, Sister Carol and Augustus Pablo. Ifetayo went on to study music at Montgomery College where she performed in the college choir and other musical events on campus. After studying keyboards, she began performing with top reggae bands in the area as Carl and Nita Malcolm of Positive Vibrations, Englishman and Maccabee of Roots Vibrations and Anointed Souls who, alongside sister Jan, opened up for Black Uhuru at the Bayou in DC. Ifetayo and sister Jan were known for their sweet harmonies and professionalism and were hired for studio projects for Moja Nya's Paradise CD and Sugar Minott's International CD, hired by producer Scientist. Ifetayo also did studio work for HR of bad brains. Ifetayo collaborated with producer The Scientist in creating reggae versions of the 1970’s classic R&B hits “I Love You For All Seasons” and “Like An Open Door”. Currently, she is working on her own CD and in collaboration with sister Jan on several musical projects. Sister Ifetayo says, “Be a good farmer and nurture the God spirit inside you, that it may blossom into the greatest love possible and then share that love--that it may come back in return". PEACE
